Reflection questions: music video

Image
Creative Critical Reflection  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  For the music video my partner, Margarita, and I worked with many conventions which can be seen in alternative/indie music videos. The first being that we filmed in a low-budget and public space. Usually in alternative/indie music videos they use low-budget settings that the public can easily have access to. Their sets are usually simple to bring focus onto the storyline. In our music video we filmed simple scenes in which our main focus is the storyline of how beauty standards can affect everyone. Another convention involves props which anyone might have at home or can easily buy. For our props we used a magazine, mirror, markers, and a hanger which are all commonly in most houses. We challenged the conventions by doing simple editing effects on our video. Usually in Alternative/indie music videos there will be the use of hallucinatory...

Music Video

This was the first music video that both Margarita and I have ever done together. Margarita and I believe that we conveyed our message conscientiously. Our purpose was to send the message to women, and people in general, to love themselves and be who they want. We hope the audience gets our message through what we produced. The way we transmitted our message into the music video was through filming and editing.  Since the scenes we had to film were planned beforehand, it was not as difficult to execute filming. It was easy to work together and meet up for filming since we live close to each other. For filming, both of us learned how to be prepared and punctual. Due to the pandemic we are currently living through, we had to limit our setting options; we decided the safest option was to film at Margarita's house. Our filming skills enhanced tremendously with this project by practicing our camera shots, angles, and movements.  For this crucial project, Margarita and I used Cute C...

Finalizing editing (music video)

Image
After Margarita and I finished editing the first six scenes of our music video, we proceeded the next day with the rest of the scenes. The next scene to be edited was the running scene. For this scene we wanted to edit negative words into the video while they chased behind me in the scene. This was to illustrate how negative words can be hurtful and many people try to not get influenced by these negative thoughts. To do this we decided to use Cute CUT Pro to edit the words following/moving behind me in the scene. I suggested that we should edit the same words we used on the mirror scene into the running scene. The words Margarita edited onto the running scene were added through text on Cute CUT Pro. Then, I discussed the color of the words with Margarita since the words were initially white but it blended in with the wall in the background so we changed the color to black. Once the words were in the right color and text, we put them in the correct positions as I had ...

Editing the music video

Image
After filming all of our scenes for the Pretty Girl music video, we began editing a day later to take a small break. We collected all of the clips together and decided that we would use Cute CUT Pro to edit our video. Once we were in Cute CUT Pro we began putting the clips in the correct order like in our storyboard. Once the clips were ready, it was time to add the song, Pretty Girl. We needed to sync the scenes along with the song so we had to cut little parts off one scene. There was some trouble with the scene were I was lip-syncing to the lyrics so the clip was cut off a few seconds. Since we were having trouble with this we also had to cut off the last second of the scene were my partner, Margarita, was throwing the Skirt onto the floor. Next we moved onto the scene with the mirror, which we had to change our ideas for. Originally we wanted to make Margarita's reflection in the mirror disappear and it would be replaced with negative words to give our mes...
