Filming blog: Directing Cantu commercial

Image
On October 27, I began filming at my friends house. I spoke to her about my plan and story board of how the commercial would go and we got to work. First I told her to put on the robe as planned as one of the costumes. Then I got the props ready which consisted of a towel, hairbrush, spray bottle, and the Cantu curling cream product. I set up the bathroom set and planned how exactly I would begin filming. Once I had everything ready I began with the first scene. I stood ready outside of the bathroom door to begin recording the first scene. As the camerawoman I made sure of the scenes that I needed to reshoot as well as the necessary camera angles. Then, I set the camera up as the mirrors POV for the next scene, which had to be shot several times due to minor mishaps. I also made sure to follow my storyboard as much as I could so for the next scene I shot a close up of the Cantu cream. I also decided to add two new scenes. The first scene that was added was the fourth scene which was of...

Planning Storyboard for my Cantu commercial

First Scene - During this scene I will be filming the main character in the bathroom. The reason behind this is to create the idea that she just came out of the shower and will be getting ready and she needs something to help add definition to her curls. The main focus of the camera will be on her as she looks at herself in the mirror. Since this is about a hair product, looking into the mirror implies that she is a person that prefers looking her best. The product Cantu hair cream will be displayed beside her. Second Scene -  This scene will be taken from the mirrors POV. This is to reinforce the aspect of her worrying about her hair which is why her facial expression will be a neutral one, not smiling or frowning. She will begin brushing and drying her hair to later apply the cream and other products.  Third Scene -  In this scene I wanted to move the focus from the character to the Cantu product. This would be a close-up shot of the cream. In Cantu commercials th...

Props Since I decided to do a Cantu curling cream commercial, my main prop is the curling cream product. Other props will be a towel, hairbrush, mirror, and clips.  Costumes The costume that the person in my commercial will use is a robe to show how she just got out of the shower from washing her hair. She will also be using casual clothes to show that she is ready to go out for her day, and that she completed her morning routine where she used the cream for a wonderful hair day. Her casual outfit will consist of a simple shirt and jeans with sandals.  Schedule On October 22, 2020, I researched the conventions of hair product commercials.  On October 23, 2020, I planned my Cantu commercial. I also established the props, costumes, schedule, set location, and a backup plan.  On October 25, 2020, I will create my storyboard of the Cantu curly hair product commercial.  On October 27, 2020, I will film my Cantu commercial and record any sounds that are needed....

Research Blog: Commercial conventions

I will be doing a Cantu Coconut Curling Cream commercial. In these commercials, there is usually a person getting ready for their day in the bathroom like a morning routine.   §   The costumes in a Cantu commercial usually consists of casual clothing depending if the person already got ready for their day, or they could be wearing a robe if they just got out of the shower.      §   In a Cantu commercial the props can depend on the setting chosen like a set with a colorful background where someone is trying out the cream, or in the bathroom. They might use props like a towel, robe, hairbrush, spray bottles, other Cantu products, and clips.   §   The actor or actors appearance can be of them getting ready and coming out of the shower looking relaxed, and ready. They might also seem irritated if their hair is a mess but once they add the cream to their hair and it dries, they’ll show a happy and excited expression. This is to show that the ...
