Research Blog: Commercial conventions

I will be doing a Cantu Coconut Curling Cream commercial. In these commercials, there is usually a person getting ready for their day in the bathroom like a morning routine. 


 §  The costumes in a Cantu commercial usually consists of casual clothing depending if the person already got ready for their day, or they could be wearing a robe if they just got out of the shower. 

 

 § In a Cantu commercial the props can depend on the setting chosen like a set with a colorful background where someone is trying out the cream, or in the bathroom. They might use props like a towel, robe, hairbrush, spray bottles, other Cantu products, and clips. 


 § The actor or actors appearance can be of them getting ready and coming out of the shower looking relaxed, and ready. They might also seem irritated if their hair is a mess but once they add the cream to their hair and it dries, they’ll show a happy and excited expression. This is to show that the product helped their hair and it is in better condition because of the cream. 


 §  The score through the commercial are usually very upbeat with a catchy sound that will make you want to dance or sing along. Some of these commercials can contain songs of well-known artists that is currently trending, a catchy song that will catch the audiences attention.

 

The conventions in Cantu commercials include the cream and other Cantu products. The commercial will also use the slogan “My Curl. My Cantu.” In bold very visible, as well as the logo Cantu. It also uses a lot of bright colors to emphasize that it is a colorful and beautiful hair day, especially the colors red, orange and yellow. 

In a Cantu commercial the product will be highlighted and shown several times to put a focus on the product. The camera will also focus on the actors hair and its curls. 

In some of the commercials it’ll give a before and after of the hair to show how the cream improves and keeps your hair healthy. The actors expressions will also be included as disappointment before they use the product and after they’ll look content, excited, and radiating to show how the product will change your life. 

Cantu commercials will also include women and girls with different looks and ages to show that no matter who you are, you can use this product. Anybody who has curly hair can try their products to show how it can be used for any type of wavy, curly, or coiled hair. They also show different hairstyles that can be one on curly hair.

Final task: Filming and editing process

As of recently, my partner and I have to decided to start our filming process on March 8, 2021. Unfortunately we could not begin filming before due to serveral reasons. Our actress playing Irene, is out of town and will be arriving March 6, 2021, which is the major reason of why we decided to begin on March 8. The actor playing Johnny also could not film earlier because he had plans involving school homework, studying for several tests and work. My partner and I looked out for our actors and decided to begin filming on a day everybody would be available.  We finished all of our planning and research and now we will prepare for filming. As of now, we have not changed or added new locations for our opening sequence. We have set all of our plans for our settings and when we will go to our assigned locations. Genre Research: The Giver

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Another movie we will use to base our final task on is The Giver.  The Giver is a science fiction movie which is based on a novel. The setting of  The Giver was in an isolated piece of land broken off and disconnected from the rest of the world. This set up the plot of the story of the film.  In the movie they use a lot of different filming techniques to express the different emotions throughout the film.  Since the movie is about "The receiver of memories" they use zooms, close-ups, establishing shots, track, mid-shots, low and high angles and many more to show the emotions of the characters in the story.
