Production blog: Recording the last scenes part two

On April 6, 2021, my partner and I recorded the last scenes with the actress playing Irene. We began by recording a voiceover which would be edited into the last scene and re-recorded scene seven. After recording those scenes we proceeded to record scene eleven. We decided to do scene eleven before scene ten since it required less preparing. For this scene we needed Irene to cry and make it seem as if she was “shedding her last tear” as she died. We allowed the actress to prepare. It was easier since the actress could fake cry so she began crying and we recorded. This took us a couple of tries but finally we got the perfect result.

Next we recorded scene ten which is the last scene of the vision. In this scene Irene is on the floor bleeding, and dying. For this scene we used the fake blood and I applied it to her neck. Once we finished applying the fake blood, I went on with the actress and positioned her on the floor. I made sure to position every single detail needed and used the storyboard as a guide. For this scene Margarita recorded as a Pan shot. This took us only a couple of tries and then we finished. We left the actresses house and thanked her for all her work.

We left our separate ways and took a break when we got home. Then, we shared the recordings and began discussing editing. I had to leave the state on April 7, 2021 for a personal problem, so I explained to my partner that I would still keep discussing with her but I would not be able to help her with editing. She said it was fine and that we would be talking about the editing during the time she was editing. Since I had to fly out of state the next day, we decided to use Zoom to discuss the recording of one last scene which my partner decided to record.I did not have to be present or did any of the actors.

This scene was number nine, which was the scene of which in Johnny’s point-of-view he would look down to his hands full of blood.Unfortunately I forgot to give my partner the fake blood which we bought and I could not drop it off to her house so she had to improve and used ketchup to replace fake blood. Since we would edit a filter over the scene the color of the blood did not matter as much. While I saw the process on zoom my partner began by putting the ketchup on the floor. She recorded a part of just the ketchup on the floor, then she applied some to her hands and with the help of her sister she recorded the last part of the scene.  This took only half hour and once she finished we wrapped up filming. Next, we began our process of editing which we had anticipated with a lot of energy. We are so glad that we finished filming successfully
