What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
- The movie takes place in an alternative version of Earth since there was an apocalypse going on in the movie with people getting infected with the Flare and turning into Cranks, which are black-veined, zombie-like creatures.
- There were multiple settings in the Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. There were hospital settings, a shower setting, a cafeteria setting, a room full of bunk beds, interrogating room setting, many hallways settings, a laboratory setting, a desert setting, buildings in ruins setting, and a mountains setting.
- There was advanced technology involved in the movie. For example, there were advanced weird-shaped airplanes, the safe house facility (which was technically a laboratory facility) had advanced doors that opened when the characters swiped a card, the safe house/laboratory facility had advance medical and scientific equipment, and there were guns that fired material that electrocuted the individual.
- The bad guys of the movie were the medical people trying to find a cure for the Flare, while the good guys were the main characters, who were teenagers running away from WICKED (the medical people.
- The movie had a variety of camera angles, camera movements, and camera shots. The movie contained a lot of low angles and high angles. The movie had these types of camera movement: tracking, pan, hand-held, and tilt. The movie contained close-ups, wide-shots, medium shots, long shots, establishing shots, two-shots, and over-the-shoulder shots. Also, the movie had many deep-focus shots.
- Furthermore, the movie consisted of many props, costumes, lighting, acting, and makeup. The props of the movie contributed to the setting of the movie. For example, in the hospital setting, there were hospital beds, vaccines, and hospital monitors. The type of costumes the movie consisted of was military costumed made uniform, doctor uniforms, and most of the characters were wearing clothes that were very simple and minimal (a basic long-sleeved shirt and pants). The movie contained many scenes that were in low-key lighting and high-key lighting. There were many emotions seen in the main characters, such as anger, sadness, fear, surprise, confusion, relief, betrayal, and seriousness. The actors of the movie had minimal makeup to correlate with the situation the actors are in the plot. The actors who played the Cranks, which are zombie-like creatures, had exaggerated and detailed makeup to demonstrate the pale skin, darkened veins, and severe wounds that represented the Cranks.
- The editing of the movie consisted of special effects, flashbacks, filters, and slow motion.
- The movie had many suspense and tension scenes that made the audience feel anxious and an adrenaline rush.
What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
The elements that we enjoyed about the movie were the tension and suspense elements because those elements made us feel that we were going through the same thing as the characters were going through in the scene.
What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
The element that did not appeal to us was the plot twist. We did not like the plot twist because the character, Teresa, betrayed her friends, which angered and disappointed us.
