Production Blog: Editing for our final task

On March 6, 2021, my partner and I began the editing process for our final task. To edit, we used After Effects CC 2020. On March 6, 2021 I finished filming all of the required scenes so we were ready to edit. My partner and I had planned to meet up to edit, however, that was not possible because of other scheduling difficulties so we decided that my partner, Margarita would entirely edit the opening sequence while I would be able to suggest and give ideas for editng and approve of my partner's editing ideas. Prior to filming, we had already disscussed a lot of our editing ideas so we used that planning as a guide of what we would include through editing.

Before beginning, I first collected all of the audios I recorded. I made sure to cut some of the audios to the correct length since some were really long audios of the actress repeating her script for the scene. Once I cut down the audios, I sent them to my partner, Margarita. Then I collected all of the scenes I recorded and did some cutting. Once I finished I sent them to Margarita to her email so it would be easier to open it on her computer for editing.

First, we disscussed about the music we would be using to follow the vision scenes. We had picked two songs during planning but we decided to end up using only one song. Then, we also decided to look for royalty free music to use during the first two scenes of the opening sequence and we decided to use Indie Rock by Scott Holmes. Once it was edited to sound as if it was an external sound coming from the actor, Johnny's headphones, I told my partner that I really liked how it turned out. After putting all the clips together and editing scene one and two, it was time to edit the transition into the beginning vision scene. During planning we decided to do a glitching zoom effect to transition into the vision. After editing, my partner shared the transition result and once again it looked extremely good so I gave her good feedback. This similar transition was also used to transition from the scenes of Irene in the vision to the running scenes.

The next day, more scenes apart of the vision scenes were edited. The blood scenes, which are of Johnny's hands filled with blood, were put in black and white and then edited to show a flash of the red color of the blood. Almost all the vision scenes were placed in the black and white filter to add to the sad mood. My partner asked if I liked the editing of the scene and I approved. Later, that day I approved of some more scenes.

In our storyboard we had decided to use a newspaper showing the story of what happened to Irene. This meant we had to make the newpaper scene through editing to show the date of when the accident that ended Irene's life, occured. During editing however, my partner accidentally put the month of when it all occured as 'april' so I had to re-record the calender scene since it showed the month as 'march'. After re-recording the scene I sent it to my partner and then we proceeded on the editing the next scenes. Once the scenes were edited together, the audios that I recorded and Margarita recorded were also applied and matched with the scenes. Somes audios had to be cut down since the clips were too short for the entire voiceover to fit.

The next day, the titles were lastly added to the scenes according to the order which we planned in our titles blog. We had to also change the font of the titles to 65 since the original font size was extremely small. Finally, my partner showed me the editing of the title for the title of the movie which is 'Three Days'. I liked the result so I let my partner know and we moved on to finalize editing. I am very excited to see the end result of my final task.
