Production Blog: Filming the first scenes
Today on March 15, 2021, my partner and I decided to film some scenes for our opening seqeunce. In order to film our scenes we needed to go to Lions park in Coral Springs. We discussed the day earlier and decided it would be easier to proceed and record scenes four and eight since they do not require any actors to be present. My partner, Margarita, and her family picked me up and gave us a ride to the park. Before arriving to the park, we all put on our masks to follow guidelines of safety because of COVID-19.
The scenes we decided to record were scenes four and eight which are part of the vision scenes. Recording outside was best for everyone so we could practice social distancing and so we decided the setting for these scenes would be a park. We also needed a place with trees, so we picked this park as our setting. Once we arrived, we went to the part of the park with trees and prepared to start filming. These scenes would be recorded in Johnny's point-of-view, while he has a vision during his sleep.
During scene four, Johnny is running/searching for Irene. Then, in scene eight, Johnny hears Irene scream and he stops and looks up to where he thinks the sound is coming from. We used Margaritas' phone to record both scenes, since her phone has a better camera. In order to produce these point-of-view scenes with hand-held movement, my partner said we had to hold the phone to our foreheads and use our hands to do so. We recorded each scene at least 3 times depending on what we thought about the recordings. We also asked Margarita's family what they thought about the recordings and they said it was perfect so we moved on.
After recording scenes four and eight, we proceeded to record the sounds needed for these scenes. Finally we finished and gathered all our belongings. We all used hand sanitizer after getting in the car and they dropped me off. The filming process was fun and interesting since we had to record point-of-view scenes, it was different. Next we plan to record the rest of the scenes and finally begin editing. I am so excited to see how else this project will teach me to do better.
