Production Blog: Filming more scenes
After rescheduling a couple of times, my partner and I were finally able to film some more scenes with the actress playing Irene. Today, we were all available to film and so we decided to meet up. My partner, Margarita, was driven by her parents to the actresses house which is were we decided to film; to relate with the setting of the scene. I walked to the actress's house since she only lives a couple houses away. Once we had all arrived we put on masks due to COVID-19, except the actress and she led us to her room. My partner and I got comfortable and began to explain to the actress what we had initially planned for the scene we would film. We decided to record scene five only and record some of the voiceover's again. In order to prepare, we went over the script once again with the actress and allowed her to look over it. I showed her our storyboard to allow her to see a visual representation of what we had planned for scene five. Originally the scene was supposed to be on a sofa, but her living room was occupied so we recorded at her desk.
As the one in charge of Make-up, I prepared the actress by doing light make-up to be more expressive of the character. I also looked into her clothes to decide what she should wear, and picked a pretty but simple shirt. My partner and I allowed the actress to prepare and look over the storyboard and scripts. I made sure to explain what kinds of emotions the character, Irene, was going through. Margarita and I also acted out the scenes to show the actress how we had planned it. Since this scene is part of Johnny's vision in our opening sequence, it was recorded in his point-of-view. We recorded the beginning of scene five several times until we were all satisfied. Then, we recorded the second part of scene five, which is when Irene looks at Johnny and smiles. The actress felt too awkward doing it how we planned so it took us some more tries before we got it correct. Once we had wrapped up filming scene five, we all went back home and thanked our actress for her great work.
When I arrived at home, I decided to take a try at recording the sound of muffled music coming from headphones which is a sound needed for one of our scenes. In the scene, Johnny is sleeping and listening to loud music. I recorded it and saved it, so that when I meet with my partner, I can show her. Finally I sent the recordings to the actress and she said they were perfect. Filming was exciting and I hope it is the same for the next meetings to film!
