Production blog: Calender scene
On April 5, 2021, I decided to film the calender scene separately while my partner prepared for other filming. I decided to film part of the scene for scene thirteen at my house since this scene does not require any of the actors to be present. In this part of the scene, a date shows up regarding the day of which Irene will die. From the time set in the opening sequence, in three days, Irene will go through her death. In order to prepare, after school I asked my parents to take me to the store to buy a calender. Once we bought the calender, I came home and prepared to record. I had picked a blue calender to record the scene with big numbers so that when I recorded the scene, it would appear as clear as water. Sadly, while recording I realized that my camera was not focusing on the numbers and it seemed blurry. I communicated with my partner and let her know that I could not film the scene with my calender and why that was. We discussed, and decided that I should print out a sheet of calender and print it in a bigger size so that my camera would catch it clearly. Since we decided to keep the date on the storyboard (March 7, 2021) I looked up March 2021 calender on the search bar and found a good sheet to print. When it printed the sheet, it cut-off March 7th, so I told my partner I would be recording it with March 8th instead. Once I had printed it, I used a small piece of tape to hold up the paper while I recorded. First I recorded 'March' on the calender, then '8' and finally '2021'. In the first version, I recorded with a simple close-up. For the second version, I decided to record it in extreme close-up and then zoom into the frame. For the last version, I recorded the whole date (March 8, 2021) and then zoomed into the date to add a dramatic effect like in the second version. I recorded all these versions several times since sometimes my hand would shake too much as I recorded or I messed up the date. The process of recording took me around half hour. Recording the calender scene allowed me to open up my imagination to the different versions of the scene that I could produce which was very fun and I felt satisfied with all of my ideas. Finally, we chose with my partner to use the second version for our opening sequence, which we will begin editing soon.
