Filming and acting for the Music Video

Image
Filming at Margarita's house After arriving to Margarita's house on Monday the 23rd, we began filming. To begin with the first scene, margarita changed into the costume which was sweatpants with a hoodie, while I set up the camera to film. I recorded the first scene only a few times until we were satisfied with the clip, and got ready to record the second scene. After we were done with the second scene, I had to do the next scene so I proceeded to change into my costume. The first plan was that margarita would make a "shut up" gesture in front of me and I would shove her hand away, however that was not possible because she needed to record that scene so I had to use my own hands for this scene. We had to do this scene several times since it was really hard for me to be serious but once we finally had that scene we moved on to the next one. For this next scene while margarita changed into other clothes, I set up a mirror which we would be using for this part of the mus...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
Storyboard Scene 1: Margarita will be standing in the grass with a sad expression on her face. In this scene Margarita will be wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. This is to represent women who are afraid of wearing what they would like, for example baggy clothes.  Scene 2: Then, I will pass Margarita a skirt and she will hold it up in front of her pants. In the same scene she will proceed to throw the skirt on the floor. This will be to represent the lyrics in Pretty Girl when Clairo sings "I could be a pretty girl, I'll wear a skirt for you." To symbolize that to be pretty you do not have to dress how others would like you to.  Scene 3: In the next scene I appear lip-syncing the lyrics "I could be a pretty girl, shut up when you want me to." While I lip-sync Margarita will use her hand to make a "shut up" gesture as if she is trying to shut me up, representing society silencing others who want to do and be who they want.  Scene 4: In this scene I will ...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Song title The song title is Pretty Girl by the artist Clairo. This song is under the genre Alternative/indie.  Props Since we want to portray the idea of girls/women feeling pressure when it comes to beauty standards our props will consist of Magazines, phones, television, mirror, markers and a hairbrush. Costumes In our music video, my partner and I will be in the music video so we will have several costumes. In the beginning of the music video we will be wearing hoodies and sweatpants. This is to represent women that are insecure and decide to not wear what they truly want to in fear of being judged. The hoodies and sweatpants that we will be wearing will be in dull colors to set a sad mood. One of us will be wearing a skirt to record for a part of the song that says "I'll wear a skirt for you." This will demonstrate how women tend to only wear what society calls for them to wear. In the last part, my partner and I will be wearing clothes that we like/feel good in. Mar...

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The genre of the song we chose is Alternative/indie. The music videos under Alternative/indie usually contain simple scenes or low-budget sets that the public can easily access. They use simple sets for the storyline, the set depends on whether the music video is narrative or non-narrative. Music videos like these tend to be simple to bring focus to the narrative. The artists/actors usually wear casual clothing to connect with the audience to a level where they can relate to the artists/actors situation. Props can vary depending on the setting of the music video, however, the props are usually objects that people might commonly have. They incorporate unique hallucinatory effects with their editing, to bring more out of the music video. Normally, in these types of music videos, the scenes are cut to match the beat of the song. There is also a use of filters to add mood and atmosphere, the use of filters can show a change in time or feeling. Jump cuts are commonly used to show that the t...

Introduction to the music video project.

Image
In the music video project I am working with my fellow classmate Margarita Ortuno Cruz. I chose to work with Margarita because she is very dedicated and responsible. Sometimes it is hard for me to start my work in time but Margarita has the energy to get me to do work and she is very smart. It is also very easy to discuss things with her since she will listen to my opinions so there are no arguments. Working with Margarita is also a very good decision because she always does an impeccable work on her projects. After looking into many songs of different genres we finally settled on one. The song we chose was Pretty Girl by Clairo. This song is about Clairo's own experience of feeling pressure of having to change to be the perfect pretty girl for her significant other. This song can be very relatable to many different women out in the world as we've all felt the pressure of having to change ourselves for other people. With Margarita, we both decided to give the message of women h...

Reflection questions blog: Cantu commercial

Image
Creative Critical Reflection   1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? In my product, the Cantu cream commercial, I used conventions that are commonly used in Cantu commercials. The props I used are an example since I used a hairbrush, spray bottle, towel and the Cantu cream. The actress in the commercial also wore a robe and then casual clothes like how you might see in a hair product commercial like Cantu. This represents people, most commonly women with curly hair. These people will usually use this cream when they're trying to get ready in their morning just how I implied in the commercial or after a shower. People with curly hair have problems finding a good cream for their hair which is why in my commercial I am trying to convince people to try it for beautiful results. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?  Throughout the Cantu commercial ...

My Cantu Commercial

After working towards this commercial for several days I had the final product. This project taught me about many things. This was also the first commercial project I've ever had. Despite getting stressed about editing as well as filming, I had a lot of fun. I had tried editing before a couple of times but this time I had to look up to do several things like the zoom out in one of the commercial scenes. I learned many new things about editing. I learned how to add music and sync it to the scenes. I also learned how to put together all of scenes as well, so that they play smoothly. My editing skills took another step into becoming better. Some things I learned about filming was how to set up the camera as well as to look for good lighting. Sometimes I had to look for alternatives for certain scenes like to record the close-up shot of the Cantu cream. I also improved my creativity by planning my commercial. If I could improve in something I would improve my filming. They went bette...

Editing my Cantu commercial

Image
Editing process Once I was done with filming I began editing. I began by collecting all of the clips that would be used in the commercial and made a quick plan of how I wanted to edit the commercial. I had to cut some of my clips to fit exactly 30 seconds all together. I used iMovie to edit my commercial. Once I was using iMovie, I put all of my clips together. I had an idea which was to add text onto my video instead of making a voiceover. To do this I used a picture and added black text over it before certain scenes. I used pic collage to make a picture and add text over it. The purpose of the text added through the commercial is to explain and convince the viewer to buying the product. First I made three of these pictures with text to go  before the first clip that was filmed. Then I made another one to go before the seconds clip, and two more to go after. On the third clip, which was where I would finally introduce the Cantu cream, subject of the commercial I wanted to d...
