Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
We used this website to prepare for the production of our opening sequence and to learn more about titles. On the homepage we saw a lot of categories, such as feature film, TV show, student projects, etc. We saw many opening sequence videos. We noticed that the opening sequence videos were in different styles and graphics. Then, we decided to watch some feature film opening sequences. We saw the inclusion of different topics like DNA, X-ray filter, skulls, and monopoly. The graphics were realistic, for example, in one video we saw the X-ray of a spine transitioned into a rollercoaster. After watching some feature film opening sequences, we then watched student project opening sequences. We learned that there are many ways to be creative.Even though the students (who made the student projects) did not have enough experience they were still able to make an opening sequence.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
For our opening sequence, we used this website to research titles. We opened the website and saw an introduction to titles. We then came across the Top 10 Title sequences of 2020. After clicking on it, the website provided many useful, and informative information. We began by watching the videos with different styles of titles. The videos made us feel shocked and we were filled with admiration. The titles and the sounds correlated well with each other. We also researched titles under the sci-fi genre, which had a different style from the Top 10 Title sequences of 2020. We learned that there are transitions and some title sequences contain animations, and it is important to use the right title that fits the genre or film. We also felt that most of the titles we watched maintained our attention and they were very interesting.

Genre Research: The Giver

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Another movie we will use to base our final task on is The Giver.  The Giver is a science fiction movie which is based on a novel. The setting of  The Giver was in an isolated piece of land broken off and disconnected from the rest of the world. This set up the plot of the story of the film.  In the movie they use a lot of different filming techniques to express the different emotions throughout the film.  Since the movie is about "The receiver of memories" they use zooms, close-ups, establishing shots, track, mid-shots, low and high angles and many more to show the emotions of the characters in the story. Since in the story the giver is giving the receiver all of his memories and teaching him the emotions one by one these different CAMS portray the different emotions.  The giver shows a lot of technology with the use of holograms, fake trees, the houses ar...

Genre Research: Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? The movie takes place in an alternative version of Earth since there was an apocalypse going on in the movie with people getting infected with the Flare and turning into Cranks, which are black-veined, zombie-like creatures.  There were multiple settings in the  Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials . There were hospital settings, a shower setting, a cafeteria setting, a room full of bunk beds, interrogating room setting, many hallways settings, a laboratory setting, a desert setting, buildings in ruins setting, and a mountains setting. There was advanced technology involved in the movie. For example, there were advanced weird-shaped airplanes, the safe house facility (which was technically a laboratory facility) had advanced doors that opened when the characters swiped a card, the safe house/laboratory facility had advance medical and scientific equipment, and there were guns that fired...

Genre Research: The Space Between Us

Image
What elements of the genre you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?   The first movie we will use to base off our final task on is ‘The Space Between Us.’   The space between us is a romance science fiction film Initially we did not know our film could only be one genre so we were going to make it a romance/sci-fi film. We  decided to use this as part of our research because of the similarity in stories.  The space between us , however, has nothing to do with hidden abilities, but instead with a boy who was born on Mars. The setting is set on Mars for the beginning of the movie and on Earth as well.  This was to give a different setting from our reality to connect the unfamiliar with the familiar to us. The movie was also set in the future to allow viewers to believe in what they were seeing in the movie. There was a lot of establishing shots to show the setting as well as close-ups, long shots, over-the-shoulder, mid-shots, handheld, trac...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
Our opening sequence will be under the science-fiction genre. We came to this decision after researching the conventions of the genre. At first we were debating over picking the sci-fi genre or the supernatural genre. Our opening sequence is about a guy who sees the future. The character always had visions of lighthearted moments, however, this time it would be different. The vision the character had was the death of his dear friend. This horrendous visions shocks him, making him want to prevent it from happening. We researched movies that dealt with that sci-fi genre and supernatural genre. After we looked into the movies, we decided. When we looked at the different sci-fi movies, we realized it was similar to our idea. Sci-fi movies sometimes involves characters with hidden abilities like our pitch. The sci-fi genre consists of imaginative and futuristic concepts. Some example films are 'The Giver', 'The Maze Runner', 'Arrival', 'Men In Black: Internation...

Genre Research: Thriller

Our PowerPoint is about the conventions of the thriller genre. For example, we provided the common  lighting, angles, camera movement, CLAMPS, elements, and sound. The usual type of lighting we have seen in thriller movies are low-key lighting and high-key lighting. Low-key lighting can be seen in movies like 'Us' , which uses low-key lighting to emphasize the suspension behind the characters and to build anticipation from the viewers. High-key lighting is seen in movies like 'Black Swan' in which they use this lighting to intensify the scene. The frequent angles we have seen in our research for thriller movies are both low angle and high angle. Low angles are seen in the movie 'Us' to either demonstrate   dominance or vulnerability depending on the situation the character is in and the expressions of the character. High angles can be seen in the movie 'The invisible Man' to portray vulnerability from the character who is looking up to what is higher th...

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch one : A guy who sees the future has a vision of a friend dying and he tries to prevent it.  Pitch two : A woman conducts her own kidnapping to trick and murder her friend.  Why pitch one?  We are interested in this type of distinct concept since it is not content we see commonly. It will be easier to do this pitch as it only requires two settings, which means we do not have to move around a lot. Not having to move around a lot makes it safer and keeps us from getting exposed to the virus. We believe that the concept is something people would want to see more of.  Why not pitch one?  We will have a hard time recruiting a male actor to fit the male character since we do not know guys who are willing to play the part. It would be difficult to find a setting that will fit the concept of the story.  Why pitch two? It is a concept that keeps people on edge and it has a plot twist. We believe that it would catch the attention of those who want to find out mo...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hello, my name is Sandy Andrade. I am currently in eleventh grade at Fort Lauderdale  high school and I am seventeen years old. I am a very caring person and I like helping those who find themselves in harsh moments. My friends often come to me for advice and they tell me I always have the right words for them. I love being there for my friends no matter what; I am like a shoulder they can cry on. I am dedicated and hardworking and I try to make myself proud. I admire my parents for all their hard work and loving actions; they are the reason why I keep working harder and harder. My parents migrated from Guatemala to New York, United States, in 1985. My parents have always worked hard to be better and outdo the poor standards people had of them. My purpose is to also do better but to also make my own self proud of who I am.  For this final task, I will be working with Margarita Ortuno Cruz, a fellow friend. We decided to work together since we are both very hardworking and we k...
